I attended a strategic Internet Marketing course yesterday (ran by KPI) it was a great way to catch up on the best way to maximise the effectiveness of your website without investing a fortune to do so.
Content Managed Site or bespoke design?
It also raised the common dilemma... should you invest in design or should you create a CMS site and update the site yourself and invest in the optimisation of your site or its functionality instead?
As always the answer is not clear cut and depends what product or service you are selling and to whom. Clearly if you are selling a lavish luxury accessory then, a utilatarian website may not perpetuate your brand image!
However your website does need to be as interactive and engaging as possible and sometimes your target audience will forgo polished quality in order to get the information they need ( just look at U tube!)
Web design with impact
It is important your site has visual interest and impact and if they help communicate or reinforce your USP's then all the better to encourage repeat visits and ultimately get that sale!
What are your thoughts... is functionality king or is a designer website a must?
